Question 1

How much does moving cost in Christchurch?

Accepted Answer

Costs depend on move size, access, items, and distance. Our hourly rate is $110–$130/hr for a 2-person crew. A typical 2-bedroom apartment move runs $240–$400; a 3-bedroom house is typically $480–$900. Use our Pricing Estimator for a quick guide, or request a fixed-price quote for an exact figure.

Question 2

How much notice do I need to give?

Accepted Answer

We recommend at least 3–5 business days' notice, though we often accommodate shorter notice — even same-day — depending on availability. The sooner you book, the more flexibility you'll have with date and time.

Question 3

Do you move pianos?

Accepted Answer

Yes — upright, baby grand, and grand pianos are all handled by specialists. Piano moving requires specific equipment and expertise, so pricing is quoted separately. Submit a request and include a photo for an accurate quote.

Question 4

Do you move offices?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MoveOne handles office and commercial relocations of all sizes — from small teams to full company moves. We offer after-hours and weekend availability to minimise business disruption. See our Office Relocation service for details.

Question 5

How do you protect my belongings during the move?

Accepted Answer

Your belongings are handled with care by our experienced team using professional moving equipment and protective materials to minimise the risk of damage throughout your move.

Question 6

Can I change my moving date after booking?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Contact us as early as possible and we'll reschedule with no additional charge where possible. Last-minute date changes may be subject to availability.

Question 7

Do you provide packing materials?

Accepted Answer

Yes — when you add a packing service, all professional-grade materials are included: boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and protective covers for furniture. We don't sell materials separately, but packing services are available as a standalone booking.

Question 8

Do you travel throughout the South Island?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We cover all of the South Island — from Christchurch to Dunedin, Nelson, Queenstown, Wanaka, Invercargill, Blenheim, Timaru, Ashburton, and everywhere in between. We do not operate in the North Island.

Question 9

How fast do you respond to quote requests?

Accepted Answer

Our team reviews every enquiry and responds as soon as possible during business hours. Requests submitted after hours are answered first thing the next morning.

Question 10

Do you move single items?

Accepted Answer

Yes — single item delivery is one of our most popular services. Couches, fridges, Trade Me purchases, a single piece of furniture — anything you need moved, we'll handle it.

Question 11

What is the difference between Apartment Moving and House Moving?

Accepted Answer

Apartment Moving is optimised for studios, 1–2 bedroom apartments, and flats. House Moving covers full home relocations from 1 to 5+ bedrooms. Both include the same professional crew and careful handling.

Question 12

Do you offer packing and unpacking services?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our packing service uses professional-grade materials and trained packers. Unpacking is also available as an add-on or standalone service — we'll unpack and place items as directed so you can settle in straight away.

Question 13

How do I pay?

Accepted Answer

We accept bank transfer and card payment. Full payment details are included in your quote confirmation.

Question 14

Can I reschedule my move?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Contact us as early as possible and we'll do our best to reschedule with no additional cost. Changes within 24 hours may depend on our schedule.

Question 15

Is there a minimum booking?

Accepted Answer

For hourly moves, there is typically a 1-hour minimum. Fixed-price moves are quoted per job with no minimum size — we move single items through to full 5-bedroom homes.
